Electronics Projects
  • Router & Cable Modem Power Cycler - Mine used to freeze up for no reason about once a month, so I made this.
  • High Impedance Amplified Telephone Line Tap - A minimally invasive phone line tap.
  • AC Line Voltage and Current Monitor - A simple and low cost line monitor that is fusible and switched, for use in repair and experimentation (especially useful in conjunction with a Variac). This page also details one way I go about making project enclosures.
  • Power Supply for the SSY-1 Nd:YAG Laser - A power supply made from spare parts for a pulsed Nd:YAG laser.
  • Clifford Qubit Emulator - An inexpensive device that mimics the behavior of a single qubit.
  • Guitar Pickup Switcher - Allows you to connect 3 pickups in any possible configuration. I finished designing it, got all the parts, but never ended up making it. If you have any interest in making this, let me know, I would be interested to see (and hear) how it turns out.
Scientific Glassblowing for Electronic Devices
  • Homemade Triode - My first attempt at making a crude triode.
  • Homemade Light Bulbs - Homemade incandescent lamps.
  • Homemade Light Bulbs (failed initial attempts) - My first two attempts at making a homemade incandescent lamps, before I knew the right way to work with lead glass.
  • Indium Solder Glass to Metal Seals - Using indium solder to make vacuum tight seals to glass.
  • Leak Checking - How to leak check vacuum devices before permanently sealing them off.
  • Scientific Glassblowing Resources - Sources and links for tools, materials and information.
Miscellaneous Projects
  • Homemade Ion Traps - Simple to make homemade ion traps which will trap charged particles of dust in air.
  • Refrigeration Compressor Vacuum Pump - A very low cost vacuum pump capable of vacuums of a few tens of Torr, made from readily available components.
  • Personal Beverage Cooler - A refrigeration device for cooling a single beverage as fast as possible.
Locks and Lock Picking
  • Picking Medeco Locks - A technique I came up with using ordinary tools that proves quite successful.
  • Decoding Targus DEFCON CL Locks - How to easily decode the popular laptop lock in under a minute, with no tools of any kind.
  • Decoding Unscrambled Master Combination Locks - ...and similar dial combination padlocks.
  • Digital Lock Sequence Enumeration - Counting the number of possible sequences to a lock when the digits used are known from wear and tear.
Computing
  • Automatic Backups in Linux/UNIX - My method for file organization and backups in Linux/UNIX, utilizing snapshot style backups and remote mirroring, including sample scripts.
  • Streaming Music Over HTTP - How to stream your music over the web to most media players, including a sample Linux/UNIX script for generating playlists.
Miscellaneous
  • My Workshop - Where I do everything!
  • How a Wimshurst Machine Works (PDF) - How a Wimshurst machine generates high voltages through electrostatic induction and mechanical energy.
  • The Basic Physics of Gyroscopic Hand Exercisers (PDF) - The basics of how gyroscopic hand exercisers such as the Dyna-Flex, Powerball, and DynaBee work.
  • Penny Removal - How to remove the penny from those small glass novelty bottles, without damaging or modifying the bottle.
  • My First Schematic - The first schematic I ever drew.
